Letter Aspect Ratio Letter aspect Ratio is used to find out if your letter size mailing piece (up to 6 1/8"h x 11 1/2"w) qualifies for postal automated barcode discounts. To find the aspect ratio, divide the width by the height of the mailing piece. To qualify for the automated discount, the aspect ratio must be equal to or in between 1.3 to 2.5. Examples: 5 1/2"h x 8 1/2"w mailer would be at 1.55 (8.5 divided by 5.5). 6"h x 6"w mailer would not be eligible for automated discount with a aspect ratio of 1.0.
